The Nice 2009 congress will honor two great physicians, both from the USA, who have contributed immensely to research and care of patients with diabetes and CVD. Prof. Jesse Roth - who has introduced the direct study of cell surface receptors and their vital role in transforming hormonal signals to intracellular events. Jesse was a mentor to a great generation of leading diabetes investigators worldwide. Prof. Scott Grundy - a great investigator of the metabolic basis for CVD risk, and a world leader in defining and putting the metabolic syndrome at the center of CVD and diabetes risk.

This international meeting is held in an effort to synthesize this knowledge and to identify the key elements for clinical application and future research.
In addition to state-of-the-art presentations delivered by distinguished experts, satellite symposia, poster presentations and free communications there will be ample room for discussion. Like previous meetings, there is a high quality scientific program related to research in Basic and Clinic areas in Hypertension, State-of-the-Art Lectures, Satellite Symposia, Breakfast Workshops, Working Groups sessions and credits for qualifying as Hypertension Specialists of the European Society of Hypertension.
Hypertension has become the number one cause of death in the world according to a WHO supported investigation. Despite the many scientific advances of the past few decades, much work remains to be done. Although we all do our best to reduce coronary heart disease, stroke, heart failure and cardiovascular complications, diabetes and obesity continue to increase worldwide. Primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases require a global approach of the cardiovascular risk, and an in-depth understanding of the mechanisms of hypertension. |
