IgG is the most abundant immunoglobulin in plasma that can be further classified into four different subclasses. Though the subclasses are structurally similar, each has its own function that can range from neutralisation to the activation of complement. So when and why do we measure IgG subclasses? Measuring immunoglobulins and IgG subclasses can aid in the diagnosis of many immunodeficiency disorders and is part of the initial patient assessment in guidelines.
