In the year of 2016, the Society celebrates the 70th anniversary of its foundation. Presently, HSLM has 450 registered members, and we are the full member of International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC), and European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EFLM) and the Laboratory Medicine and Medical Biopathology Section of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS). The society is especially proud of its three doyens, who are the members of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences: Profs. Kázmér Jobst, László Muszbek and Gábor L. Kovács. The members of our Society play important roles in the organization of scientific life in Hungary.
The HSLM is responsible to promote the laboratory and scientific activities of its members. It also endorses the professional, ethical and financial interests of the members in accordance with the common weal. The Society organizes the national conferences in this field of medicine every 2nd year, and the Training days in the interim years. The activities and functions of the Society are regulated by the Constitution of HSLM. Its strategy activities and current duties are summarized in the Strategy plan 2015-2017 of the Society, which was constructed and accepted by the Executive Board.

The President, who is elected every 3 year by the General Assembly, leads our society. There is an Executive Board with 11 other members consisting of the Secretary, Treasurer, Past President and President Elect in addition to 5 Members-at-larges and 2 presidents of 2 Standing Committees (Protection of Interests and Ethics Committee, Publications and Communication Committee). All these members have the voting rights in the management of the HSLM. The Executive Board holds meetings at least 3 times a year, when other full delegates without voting rights such as the chairman of Supervisory Committee and 7 additional individuals may also attend these meetings. Beside of the 3 Standing Committees, there are 3 currently active “Ad hoc” Committees of HSLM. The “LabTestOnLine” Committee is responsible for the professional supervisory of the Hungarian version of this website (www.labtestonline.hu) which supports primarily the non-professional populations with a general interest to laboratory analyses. The “Many and few tests” Committee has a major function to monitor and analyze the occurrence of various laboratory tests nationwide in relation to the need, the financial issues as well as national and international guidelines. The “Test repeatability” Committee aims to determine the minimal repeatability of laboratory tests according to evidence-based medicine or the best clinical practise principles.
